Biography
Richard Drew is Consultant Microbiologist at the Rotunda Hospital and Children’s Health Ireland at Temple Street. He is also Honorary Associate Professor in the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and is consultant at the Irish Meningitis and Sepsis Reference Laboratory. Having completed General Professional Training in Paediatrics, he trained as a microbiologist in Ireland and completed a MD thesis in Trinity College Dublin on BK virus related disease in stem cell transplantation. He then spent three years as Consultant Microbiologist in Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in the United Kingdom, before returning to his current post.
He is lead for Antimicrobial Stewardship in the Rotunda Hospital, and Laboratory Director in CHI at Temple Street. His research interests are mainly around improved diagnostics for paediatric and maternal sepsis, in particular looking at how molecular and emerging technologies can be best used to achieve improved patient outcomes.” He has a keen interest also, in how artificial intelligence can be safely integrated in to routine clinical care for patient benefit.
