Presentation Title: Recruitment and retention panel discussion

Speaker Bio:

Paudy O Gorman in an experienced laboratory practitioner with particular interest in Information Management, Lean Six Sigma and Near Patient Testing.  Paudy is the Laboratory Manager in the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital (MMUH), Dublin. MMUH is a level 4 teaching hospital on the North side of Dublin and in addition to the local services for our catchment area, the Mater Hospital provides a range of frontline and specialist services on a regional and national level. The Mater is the National centre for Heart and Lung Transplant, ECMO, HIPEC, and Spinal Injuries to mention but a few.  In 2021 MMUH became the first site in Ireland to implement NPEx

Paudy has worked as Point Of Care Testing Manager in two of Dublin’s larger University Teaching Hospitals over the last 15 years. In this time he has implemented many different POCT systems including HbA1c, Blood Gas, Blood Glucose and Ketone, INR and Rotem. In these roles Paudy developed a keen interest in POCT connectivity and how this can best be achieved. Under Paudy’s leadership the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital achieved Accreditation against ISO 15189 & 22870 and continues to expand upon the scope of Accredited POCT applications. Paudy is also a Lean practitioner holding a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma. In 2016 Paudy was appointed as POCT Lead for the National MedLIS Project in Ireland and was formerly the MedLIS Implementation Lead for the Mater Hospital. Paudy was responsible for the implementation of NPEx in the Mater during 2020 and previously worked as Project Facilitator with the Mater Transformation team which facilitates major change projects across the hospital.
