Biography
Presentation Title: The pathway to leadership in Medical science, A road with many turns.
Abstract:
The Pathway to Leadership roles as Medical scientists is a wide and varied one and this presentation will outline how to engage professionally and identify opportunities to progress in your career based on the speakers own real life experiences from life as a bench scientist through promotional grades to professional leadership roles. Examples from the past and potential opportunities for the future and what that might mean for Medical Scientists as Health Professionals.
Speaker Bio:
Pat recently joined the National Clinical Programme for Pathology as Programme manager, where he will be supporting the work of the National Clinical and Scientific leads. He is currently General secretary of the European Association of Professions in Biomedical Science. (EPBS) and is a past President of the Academy (ACSLM)
Pat previously worked in the UK as a Biomedical Scientist for 11 years before joining the Microbiology department in University Hospital Waterford (UHW) where he occupied various Senior roles including, Chief Medical Scientist. More recently Pat held the post of Laboratory Manager UHW where he was responsible the Pathology department during both COVID and the cyberattack.
Pat is a Medical Scientist with over 35 years’ experience in pathology services.
