Presentation Title: The Development of a Satellite Laboratory to support the Outpatient Service in TUH SIMMS Building
Abstract:
The new Clinical Chemistry satellite laboratory, located in the SIMMS building, presents a novel approach to management of patients in the Endocrinology OPD of Tallaght hospital. The integrated service will reduce the number of visits required by a patient to the hospital, removing the need for a prior visit to phlebotomy in advance of their OPD appointment. This will provide relief to the main hospital phlebotomy department, thereby improving this service for other patients. The laboratory service aims to produce results within an hour of patient attending for phlebotomy, allowing the clinician to have full access to these results in time for the patient appointment. The test repertoire available in this laboratory are full biochemical profiles, including renal, liver and bone profiles, full lipid profile, thyroid function tests, pituitary and fertility hormones, HbA1c.
