Dr Andrew Hines

Biography
Dr. Hines has made significant contributions to his field through the development of theoretical frameworks, methods, tools, subjective perceptual studies, and labelled datasets. His research has advanced the understanding and adoption of computer models that enable machine perception and AI within the international research community and industry. His PhD focused on modelled speech intelligibility for hearing-impaired listeners, with the output licensed to Google. He was recognised as the Research Ireland Adapt Centre’s Researcher of the Year 2024 and received the Science Foundation Ireland CONNECT Centre Research Impact Award and the Royal Irish Academy/American Chamber of Commerce Research Innovation Award in 2018. Dr. Hines has secured over €5 million in personal grant funding, including European grants H2020 RIA (PRECISE4Q) and MSCA (ARMCI) and six Google Research Awards. He has collaborated with clinicians to develop AI models for stroke rehabilitation, cardiovascular disease detection, and respiratory inhaler sound classification.
