Biography

Presentation Title: “Panel Discussion – Recruitment and Retention in Laboratory Medicine”

Speaker Bio: 

Clíona O’ Shea is a medical scientist in the microbiology laboratory in Children’s Health Ireland at Crumlin. She worked in the molecular microbiology laboratory from July 2020 to January 2023.

She is currently completing the second year of the part-time Master of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science course in TU Dublin. She is conducting her research project on Bordetella species.

Previous to this, she worked as an intern medical scientist in the Mercy University Hospital in Cork. She completed her Diploma in Clinical Laboratory Practice there, as well as in Cork University Hospital, between 2019 and 2020.

She obtained her biomedical science degree from UCC/CIT in 2019. For her final year research project on coagulase negative Staphylococci, she placed in the top 10% of 3,437 entries in the Global Undergraduate Awards 2019 and was awarded the ACSLM President’s Prize in 2020.

Clíona plans to continue actively supporting the recruitment, retention, and professional advancement of medical scientists in Ireland.
